Harding Pens - Pen Crafting Details:
The pens shown on this web site are new, high quality, real wood writing instruments, hand crafted In
Aurora, Ontario, Canada. A wide variety of global wood types are used including many unusual coloured
exotic woods from the far corners of the world. Click on the wood index link to get information on the wood
types I use. The external metal parts are usually plated with gold or other suitable materials. The plated
parts are the clip, the top plug (called the final) the pen tip and usually the center ring. Occasionally the
center ring is made of wood. Some times all or portions of the hardware is painted, such as the painted
metal finals and nib-section on the El Grande style pens. See the hardware platting page for more

Hand made pens have unique shapes each hand carved on a lathe for look and writing comfort. The wood
of the pens are finished with a hard durable clear glossy finish to protect them for many years of use. All
woods colours are natural except where noted. I do not stain woods but prefer to use a finish that shows
the natural colour. A good finish is critical to protect the wood from humidity and skin acids. I use a
museum grade wax as a final coating to protect all the pens I sell. See the Pen care page for information
on care and cleaning of wood pens. There is also information on using and maintaining fountain pens.
Remember fountain pens and rollerball pens use water base ink and need to be stored with their cap on to
keep the ink from drying out.
Each pen is a hand crafted, one-of-a-kind item that shows the natural beauty of the wood grain and that
special shine of the hardware.

Pen refill information is shown on the refills page. I include catalogue numbers to help you locate quality
