                                              HAPPY NEW YEAR !
January 2007’s feature is a new style of pen for Harding Pens. This pen is commonly known as a
"
Cigar Pen" due to the thick size of the pen. I made my first Cigar pen in December 2006. Sorry
folks, the first one is sold already, but I can make another if you would like one. This style of pen
uses a Parker style of refill. Most of the other pens I make have used a Cross type refill.
The cigar pen has a double twist mechanism. That means that the pen extends with a twist in either
direction. This pen is ideal for someone who likes a thicker pen, common with those with limiting
hand control conditions such as arthritis.
The first Cigar pen, number 139, was completed Dec 29 and was made with beautiful
Amboyna Burl
wood. The hardware parts are plated with upgraded 24 k Gold. Upgraded gold contains trace
elements to improve the wear characteristics, which is important due to the soft nature of gold. The
Cigar Pen is also available in satin gold, chrome, and satin nickel plating.
These four hardware finishes are also now available on European style twist pens. The upgrade
gold and chrome are available on the El Grande Fountain and Rollerball pens. See the
pen type
pages for more information.
The black rings on this pen are black painted metal. The rings are on the nib, center-band, and at
the final. The Cigar Pen has a nib that unscrews easy. So easy, that the easiest way to change the
refill is to unscrew the nib and the swap in a new Parker style refill.
