July's Feature – Custom Pen - Valve Pen
This month's feature is a unique piece of turning work. This pen and stand was commissioned to look like the inner
parts of a valve. The real valve is steel, so the wood parts were painted silver to look like steel. The pen is made to
look like the valve stem and the top part of the stand is made to look like the valve seat. The bottom part of the stand
is spalted maple.
This piece was quite difficult to make due to the custom work in threading the stem and modifying the pen design to
fit into the stem section. The pen took many months of work to get right.
